Not sure what is going on, but in the last year or so, whenever I wear a bra I get a lump on the underside of my breast. Never any other time, unless I've worn a bra, which I why i stay around the house bra-less most of the time. Now, either breast will get one, now both breast have one this time. One breast has a bigger one than the other. They grow quite large width wise, hard in the center, very red, hot, and sometimes painful if touched. While this happens quite often lately, I got them recently (like yesterday) and today the one on the left breast has two streaks, one coming up from each side of the lump. Any ideas? My neighbor says it's a boil and she gets them all the time. If this is so, is there any way to prevent them? Thank you so much in advance for any advice.

They do come and go regularly, but this one particularly worries me because of the red streaks extending from them on each side and up, I just don't want any infections traveling in my blood stream. I generally just deal with these and let them go away on their own, but I do think a call to the doctor might be in order because of the streaks. It's hard to go to the doc because of lack of insurance and $$. Thank you all :)

Call your gynecologist and try to get an appointment for a mamogram and a checkup ASAP...DO NOT PUT THIS OFF!! Tell them what is happening, so they can get you in sooner...it may be nothing, but if it should turn out to be cancer, you don't want to put it off..

I had the same thing happen to me a few years back... I ended up having the lump removed, and it was benign, the biopsy showed that it was a tissue cluster, these develop in the breast tissue, especially if you've breastfed, if you do sport/exercise etc..It's actually quite a common thing in women..another one of the many annoying things we must go through.. I was told to de-wire all my bra's cos the pressure of the wire can cause tissue cluster too...You may want to get your bra's fitted at a place like Bra's n Things, they have wireless bra's there too, but I found it cheaper just to remove the ones out of mine..Go see your G.P, they may send you off for a mammogram or ultra sound, they will also check if there is an underlining infection..
Good Luck

You are not wearing a good bra. It's probably the wrong size. I don't think it a boil but it's nothing to worry about. It would be marks from the underwire or blisters or callouses (depending on how bad it is.) You need to go to a lingerie shop not a department store to be fitted by a professional. When you go to buy a bra don't focus on the size, focus on the fit. The band should be straight across your back without creating bulges, the cups should be smooth against your breasts and the underwires shouldn't dig into the sides. The straps should be comfortable on your shoulders without digging in and if you pulled them down the bra shouldn't shift much.

If these occur and go away, then it is very possible that they are boils, likely due to a bacteria on your skin called Staph. Do you get boils in any other place on your body?

Antibiotics might help them go away faster, but if you are getting recurrent boils you may need to talk to your doctor about trying to "decolonize" or wipe out this particularly pathogenic strain of staph from your skin.

In general, you should see your doctor about any new lump on your breast, without delay.
