Example;
I got a ticket for going 81 mph in a 65 zone. It was a slow day, I ussually go faster. Do I have to tell my spouse? Or... can I just pay it quietly and shut up?

Should I go ahead an run the extra copy through the shredder to prevent it being found later? Or...do I absolutely have to "fess up" to my partner about it?

In other words...Is honesty always and mandatorialy (is that even a word) the best policy?

Depends upon how upset you are about it. If you think, oh well, it was bound to happen one day anyway, la tee dah, then no, just pay and go on your merry, but slower way.

If you are gonna be all pissy about it, then you can tell just so they do not think you are upset with them.

If you are normally always right and it bugs your spouse, then yes, swallow your pride and let them laugh at your expense, along with you, especially if they speed too, because the spouse who never wins, dseserves a break and you need to show some fallibility.

You know what though? You should live as though whatever you do WILL eventually be found out, because it usually is. The truth, someone can deal with, get over, but a lie, well, that is harder to get over.

Keep the copy somewhere to remind yourself to be safe.

You must get an awful lot of tickets for you to be worried about your spouse finding out. If it's going to be a big ordeal, I wouldn't want the hassle. However, things like this always have a way of coming back to bite me in the as s and I can't live with guilt. So would I tell my spouse, yes I would.
By the way, slow down, EVERYBODY is something to somebody. A son, daughter, wife, husband, child, grandparent, aunt, uncle, the list could go on for days. If you were to lose control of your vehicle, blow out a tire, something and me, my family would lose a mother, a daughter, a sister, an aunt, a grandchild, a great grandchild, a niece and a friend, all in one person. Life is long, your marriage may not be if you keep getting speeding tickets and trying to hide it.

Here's a better idea. Don't speed and you won't get any more tickets and then you won't have to keep anything from her. Everyone gets a speeding ticket sooner or later. It's no big deal unless you lie about why you had to spend 100 plus dollars to pay the fine. Take defensive driving and then you can impress your spouse that you are being responsible for violating the law and then the ticket won't be on your driving record.

I believe honesty is the key but if it is going to cause more problems or cause a fight over it then pay it off and keep quiet. I would have to tell my husband cause we can talk about things and he would have to pay the ticket could I am in school and not working anyway.

From a wife's perspective- I don't understand what you think she is going to do to you that makes you so afraid to tell her. Plus, if you don't tell her and go to all the trouble of shredding extra copies, etc and she finds out about it, she is going to wonder what else you have been less than truthful about and are hiding.
