Meteors strike the earth all the time. There is no way of knowing how many asteroids have struck the earth because our planet is tectonically active, we have volcanos that are constantly melting and recycling rock, also we have an atmosphere, and water that works to erode any rocks or craters that would be left over after an impact.

I can't remember if it's in Arizona or New Mexico, but there is a huge and I mean HUGE crater left from when one hit. It's a tourist attraction.
