I hurt my shoulder drawing back my bow on a deer on October 1st 2006. The bow wasnt too heavy, i was just overly nervous and my muscles sorta locked up. I have pain all the time for a couple weeks, then it was only when i did certain things. The worst pain i experience is when i play softball. I have extreame pain when i go to throw a ball. It also hurts when going to put on a jacket or go to put on a seatbelt. The pain usually only is around when i do certain things, the most extreame when throwing. It has been over 6 mths and the pain is the same. Does anyone know what could be wrong.

Sounds a bit like a rotator cuff injury...

First: Stop doing the things that hurt.. you could be aggravating it.

You really need to go to the Dr. to determine if it is a strain, or if you have in fact torn it.

A strain can get better with rest and rehab.. A tear needs surgery, and WILL NOT GET BETTER with RC rehab exercises.

Don't just do a rehab exercise blindly that someone in a chat room "thinks" will help.

You need a Dr's diagnosis asap.

Go to a Dr. and let him/her diagnose what you condition is FIRST, then let the Dr. recommend if you are a candidate for Physical therapy or surgery or not. If you start with pt your insurance most likely will not cover it, especially since you need a diagnosis which only a Dr. can provide. A Physical therapist although very smart cannot diagnose. (although they would probably be right) You must follow the proper chain of command.
Untill you get the diagnosis do not follow these other posts about doing a stretch or exercise. Ice and heat will help. But also remember that no one except a Dr. can tell you to take ANY medications. This includes Advil/Aspirin .
One of the first things they taught us as personal trainers was we could not diagnose a sports injury, and recommend medications. I know that sounds simple enough, but no one but your Dr. is qualified to tell you to talk and medicationsl
Although well meaning, people on these posts do not know your medical history, allergies, or other medications you are taking.

Good Luck.

i know what your feeling. a year ago i was hurt pretty bad and messed up my shoulder. To me it sounds like you need to see a Doctor.
until then stand at a door frame and put your fingers together, then put your hand on the door frame and keep it there while you move your body to the side, so it moves your shoulder around.

Hope you get better!!

you probably had a soft tissue injury that hasn't healed. repeated use of the same area causes reinjury to the site. visit a doctor as you may need an MRI.
soft tissue injuries (those to muscles, ligaments, and tendons) may take up to a year to heal. you may need physical therapy to encourage healing.
in the meantime, try to reduce use of the injured area, use ice/heat, and treat pain w/advil or alleve.

You have a muscle sprain. Most likely it is the subscapulares and teres. You should go and see a physical therapist and get it worked on. Till then, stretch, stretch, stretch.

Peace

Get to your physical therapist and deal with this. . .since October is too long of a time to spend just wishing for it to go away, and this sort of thing left to itself tends to go from bad to worse.

Go to APTA.org, click on "find a PT", and search your home area.

Good luck!
