For some people, it might be an easy transition from kid>grownup. But it seems like for most kids, some big event happens to shake up your world and send you careening into the *real* world. Either way it happens, seeing the *real* world can sometimes be a real shock!
IMO, ideally, parents allow kids to see what responsibility and accountability is at a young age, so that they are better equipped to grow into the good human being they're meant to be. But some parents, for many reasons, want to protect their kids from life's disappointments, and in doing so, they minimize the kid's chances of understanding life's ups and downs, and learning how to accept and deal with those ups and downs.
But, there are kids who don't listen to their parents, and don't hear them say things like:
"you're too young to date, wait until you're (age)",
"Don't try to grow up too fast",
"Be a kid for as long as you can, you've got the rest of your life to ____".
Because when a kid starts doing things that are not right for their age, most of the time they don't realize along with doing those things, comes BIG responsibilities that are difficult for a kid to bear. It can be overwhelming for a kid to suddenly have the freedom and responsibility of an adult!
I don't think older generations *hold back* the big secret of what life will be like when it reaches the "crappy point" on purpose. I think it's more like *how to tell young people, in a way that they'll listen and understand, the truth about real life issues*.
Kids and parents just need to do the best they can at being good listeners to each other. Listening, and REALLY hearing what the other person has got to say, is a very hard thing to do.
For parents, remember how hard it is to grow up, and show your kid support and love no matter what. The lessons that sink in are *whispered*, not yelled.
For kids, understand that your parents love you and want you to succeed in becoming the BEST person you can be. Parents set rules for a reason, and you need to trust them.
Hey, good luck in whatever you do, and keep asking thoughtful questions!

Those are those days when you wonder, what is my purpose? What is everything? Why Me? Does life really have meaning? or are we just drifting through space and time? Are we all doomed? Is there life beyond the grave? These things are normal to think or wonder about. It is all a part of discovering who you really are. If you ever want to know why you were created, then find your Creator, I mean, who would better know than the very one that created you. In short, pray and ask Him. He will tell you. Peace to ya.

Crappy?? Maturity is a blast, much better than adolescence or teenage. Maybe when you get old enough to be decrepit it will be crappy - but maybe not even then, if your mind is filled with happy memories.
