Lucky you. I have 212,861 - all legit and no orphans. The number of keys depends on the software you have installed - for example, I have McAfee installed on mine which accounts for a fair chunk of the reg keys.

Don't forget that every piece of program data Windows might ever want to know, however briefly - 50 years from now is stored in the registry.

The number varies from system to system. When you install a program, for example, it can add any number of keys to the registry. Hardly any two systems will have the same number...LOL!

If you're having an issue in Windows and the registry is corrupted, you're better off doing a clean install. On the plus side of going through the hassle, your PC will most likely get a good speed boost as a nice consolation.

That depends on the number of software you install. Are you talking about just Windows registry, with a pristine system?
