what is the difference between silver and sterling silver when buyinh jewellery?

are both the same or one is better(purer) than the other. which is preferable to buy?

Sterling silver.

Just silver should be about 100% pure.
Sterling silver is about 92% silver therefore has some other metal in it to form an alloy. The sterling silver is less likely to tarnish as fast as pure silver.
