It will shorten the life of your cluch if you use a stick shift. For an automatic it can shorten the life of the bands inside the transmission. Also unless you are using a line lock, a device that only locks up your front tires, you will shorten the life of your rear breaks dramatically. Personally I have blown a clutch literally into pieces and have had to replace rear disc on cars i did not have line lock on.

I've seen someone bust the studs on their wheels doing a burnout. It was a 63 chevy truck with a 350 motor.But yeah it wont hurt your tranny right away but it cant be good for it either.

Dont even trip, as long as u dont have it in neutral while rev the engine then throwing it into drive, start in a low gear and make sure not to redline, do the burnout then throw it into neutral to let the rpms settle instead of throwing it to a higher gear
1st=burnout then-----> Neutral Not 2nd
unless you want to seed away,the manual tells u when to shift

WOW.....ummmm....well start with this. Flip to the back of your owners manual and look up "Burnout Instructions". If it's in there that should be a good sign that it's good for the car. Otherwise I am going with "Things that are not good for my tranny for 600 Alex".

I leave my trans in D when I do burnouts and can light up both tires no problem. I wouldn't be surprised if it decreases the life of your transmission when you do it.

Ive done a few with my truck (stupid) but it wont kill your trans fast, but yes its deffinently not recomended for it. Are you power braking or just matting into it? You should worry about your tires for now, but its not good for the trans either

YAAFM! Of course it is not good for the transmission. But, please. go ahead and keep doing it, then you'll be off the road and the rest of us can feel safer.

And go back to school!

wha ? 1st and 2nd shift (dropping it) and automatic transmission (D) are two different transmissions.
