"Our two minds .... One is an act of the emotional
mind, the other of the rational mind. In a very real
sense we have two minds, one that thinks and one that
feels" (Daniel Goleman, Emotional Intelligence,
Bloomsbury Publishing, London, 1996, page 8).
The Upanishads call the emotional component of mind as
Chitta and the rational component of mind as Manas. In
general, women excel in Chitta and men excel in Manas.
Many western scientists tried to locate the seat of
Prana (life, vitality) in the body. Some proposed the
heart to be the seat of Life. Just because the heart
stopped beating, you can not say that the person is
dead. There are many cases in medical history that
people revived to life after some hours of stopping of
the heart. Some medical experts theorised that a body
will not revive after it's brain ceases to emit the
electrical signals. Even this theory could not stand
the test of truth. Modern medicine knows that the first
organ to decompose in a dead body is the private organ.
There is not single case in the medical history that a
person revived after the private organ started
decomposing. Chandogya Upanisad says (VI.5.4):
" Water when drunk becomes three fold; it's coarsest
portion becomes the urine; it's middle portion the
blood, and it's subtlest portion Praana."
The definition of Prana is 'that which continues or
sustains life'. It is the same organ which 'creates'
life. Many philosophical texts say 'water is life'!
The major content of our body is water.
In some medieval European drawings, women were likened
to upward pointing triangles, and men were likened to
downward pointing triangles. Among persons with weight
proportionate to their height, men are supposed to have
broad chest and women are supposed to have broad loin
region. The componet Chitta is located on the spine
behind the private organ and the component Manas
is located behind the lungs on the spine. Though the
brain-spine system is one unit having the same celebral
fluid, modern science does not accept existence of
any components of mind on the spine. They will come
to know about the wisdom of the Upinishads some
time soon.
Woman is given this gift by nature bacause she has to
spend a long time in pregnancy to give birth to 'life'.
