Because we (most of us) live in a free society. We can choose what products to consume and which ones to leave on the shelf. Banning fast food is like banning alcohol, guns, abortion, marijuana, porn, or anything else that some people find troublesome. How much control do you want your government to have over your lives? What's next? Should the government ban private pools because hundreds of children drown every year in their own backyards? Soon the government will be telling you which car to buy, where to live, and what time you should be home at night. Leave the fast food industry alone and concentrate on the real problem--the social and economic costs of an obese society.

Governments shouldn't ban fast food because it takes the basic right to choose away from the individual. If they are able to ban certain food choices, then what would stop them from installing governors on all our vehicles to prevent speeding? These are why people are dying to make their way to the United States. Freedom of choice that isn't available in some other countries.

If you know how to eat at a fast food resturant then you can eat there with no problems. If they ban fast food places then people like teenagers will have a hard time finding that first job and getting experiance under their belts. I dissagree with banning fast food, I think it helps America in a lot of way. I do think fast food restraunts should make their food a bit healthier though.

It's a big business.

People have a choice of whether or not they eat at fast food places, what they get and how often they go.

A business should not be banned because people make stupid choices (ie, burgers and fries every day).

I am so tired of the government banning things for MY safety. I am a tax-paying adult with a brain of my own. I think I am perfectly capable of making my own choices about my own personal safety and health. Isn't the chance to make bad choices also a part of freedom? Can't we be stupid at least once in a while without risking prison?

People should have the right to eat what they choose. Any food can be bad for you if eatten in large enough quanities. Besides not all fast foods are artery clogging heart stoppers. High calorie foods can actually be helpful for those who keep active, such as sports professionals. Fatty foods are helpful to those who have anorexia.

Because it's a matter of personal freedom. Yeah, fast food may not be that good for you, but you can make a choice to partake or not. Should it be illegal to not exercise, take vitamins? Where do you draw the line?
