Fundal Height
What exactly is a fundus and how is fundal height measured? If you've heard these words during your pregnancy, you might have asked these questions. Fundal height is useful in assessing fetal growth and development. Too high of a measurement and you could be having twins (or other fetal growth problems). Too low of a measurement and your baby could be having problems with fetal growth such as intrauterine growth restriction (IUGR). FEATURED CONTENT

Fundus is the medical term for the upper portion of the uterus between the fallopian tubes. Fundal height is measured using a tape measure and measuring from the top of your pubic bone to the top of your fundus. Fundal height is measured in centimeters and should closely match your baby's gestational age. So, for example, if you're 24 weeks pregnant, your fundal height should be 24 centimeters.

Fundal height can vary from person to person and it is not an exact measurement. As you approach late pregnancy, fundal height will become less accurate.

Please remember that fundal height is only one factor in assessing fetal development.

Don't worry. Mine very rarely were on target and I am mummy to four perfectly beautiful children. 15 weeks does seem a little early to check for fundal height so just enjoy being pregnant and like I said don't worry. Congratulationsxxxx

well fundal height isnt really a predictor, its mor elike a guidline. if tthe dr start to be concerned then they will do a ultra sound to see how baby is measuring. also is there a chance your dates may be a littl eoff. 3 weeks isnt much. infact i never had a due date with my first child. the dr told me sometime between march 8-31..and i had her on the 4th.

At this stage of pregnancy, it's not a concern. If you are still 3cm or more under when you get to about 34 weeks, they might send you for an extra scan, but seeing as you are so early on, it's not an issue.

certainly dont worry, i was measured at 30 weeks, i measured only 25 so i was sent for a scan which actually showed my son was bigger than average. when he was born he weighed 8lb 8ozs, your just hiding it well. if your midwife has any concerns I'm sure she will refer you xxx
