This is a long shot but i am looking for a childrens movie that i saw a loong time ago. I dont remember the title but i am hoping you can tell me. All I remember is that there is a rat whose brother rat is sick, and somehow this rat goes on a quest to find something. On the way he encounters a wize old rat that gives him a necklace with a deep red pendant, and when the old wise rat writes with his pen its shiny magical looking gold ink. And then in the latter part of the movie , around the end there is some sword fighting, plus a scene with an old own, and the rat goes into this owls cave to try and find some answers. If this rings a bell at all please help me out. Thank you so much.

the Secret of NIHM
A fieldmouse named Mrs. Brisby must move her family to a safe location before the farmer plows the field where they live, but her invalid son Timmy cannot go outside due to his pneumonia. She enlists the aid of some highly intelligent, escaped lab rats that have built a subterranean society inside a rose bush near the farmer's garden. The rats, led by the wise Nicodemus, decide to help her physically move her house to repay a debt of gratitude to her late husband, who made possible the rats' escape from the laboratory. But things become complicated when some of the rats decide to use the situation to kill Nicodemus and make it appear to be accidental.

Sounds a bit like the Secret of NIMH.

(although I forget what the initials stood for, but they ARE initials...)
The rats and mice were part of a human run expirement to increase intelligence, it worked, they hid their brains because they knew what would happen if we found out they were as smart as us, and set out to find themselves a more peaceful way of life.
