True, I agree. I have Asian, Hispanic, black, white, Arab, Jewish, and mixed race friends. We all have something in common, in fact we have more similarities than differences. I don't know why race is such a big deal, we're all individuals. People of the same race can be as different as day and night, but just because if their skin color they are lumped into one group, separated by shallow differences. I'm black, automatically someone is prejudging me, forcing me into a stereotype. I really don't care though, these are the people with small minds and cannot understand anything beyond their tiny little wits can fathom.. which isn't very much.

I believe racism is instilled by previous generations. Well, a part of it is. Being from a small town, primarily Caucasian, I have noticed that the most racist of the people, have parents who are racist. When the question is brought up, about why they think someone from another race is sub-par, I seem to come up with little insight. The things they say are along the lines of "My dad says that the are only here, because their fathers are in the local prisons" and other answers that are not satisfactory.
My grandparents are this way. The are white, from Alabama, and are very racist. My parents are racist. I'll admit, before I learned some of the ways of the world. I was racist. I think some of the racist people have not been exposed to different cultures, or idealism's other than they have been lead to believe by their upbringing.
I just have no clue on reversing the process of racism. It seems that the efforts of education on the matter are fruitless. :-(
EDIT: I am not claiming to be a victim of racism, I have seen it first hand, from a family of racists.

I was raised in a tiny, tiny, town. Their were white people and 2 Mexican American families. A lot of illegal aliens working the farm lands and dairys, but they were all grown men and mostly lived on the farms where they worked. My best friend was Hispanic and we were close from before I can remember. I was never taught racism, or sexism, or any other isms. We were whipped if we were ever mean to people for what ever reason. If they were over weight or darker, homely or what ever. Now I am a well rounded woman. I LIKE PEOPLE. All sizes, shapes, colors, sexual orientation, education or lack there of it. If people would give everyone a chance to show who they are before they make a decision, everyone would be happier.

My friend, racism is not an american problem, its a Human problem. people in every country have somebody if not several types of people to hate. People need something to be against, and the small mind will jump to the most obvious difference skin color) and hate it.
I realy don't care what race is in danger, danger of what?? Racism makes me sick. Racism is for the weak, and the stupid.

yknow, ask anyone outside the U.S. and they'll all tell you that racism is everywhere. Media likes to tell a different story. b/c thats what sells. Sorry to say but the states are actually one of the more accepting countries of diversities. dont be blindsided by what the news tells you. at least in the U.S. we look down as a society on racism; many countries dont. we do need to make strides forward but as far as i can tell from my travels, we're doing better than most.

i had a mexican friend who was third or fourth generation american as we came from the same town where there are few hispanics. he and his family all fit in together with everyone else. then dan and I got sent to Chicago and there were a lot of Mexican workers there..dan started talking down about whites and he hated white women like his buddies...i heard them talk and they did not miss a chance to put down white people...dan's women friends growing up were mostly white..the point is I seen this happen with the blacks as well as the hispanics...I think this is just being a phony ...enough said

These people from older times bring racism into their childrens lives and they cycle just continues because everyone thinks they are better than everyone else. No one is better than anyone else! The only thing different is the skin. Skin does not make the person! People need to open their minds and stop being so ignorant!

Unfortunately there are many small-minded people teaching their children hate. But it is not only in America, I lived in Europe for 9 years and found it much worse there. I ran into hatred not because of my skin color (white) but because I was a foreigner.

I've never really understood why there is still racism in America. You would think that being in the 21st century, we would have overcome such hate and bigotry. I don't know how people can be like that...with me, I see not colors.
