Anybody born/raised in Texas now living elsewhere? How do you explain to everyone what it's like back home? I've been out of Texas for 3 years and still can't quite get the picture across.

I am not a Texas native, quite the opposite actually. I was born and raised in AZ and now live just north of Dallas. So my perspective is from the other end of the spectrum. I would say to people that TX is a very large good 'ol boys club essentially. I have noticed that people tend to do business with the same companies for years and years. And people tend to stay close to where they were born and raised. I have found that the people are very friendly, more so than the rest of the country. People are more trusting of eachother and a handshake still means something here. Texans seem to be very proud to be Texans, it's a big deal. Texans tend to be Christians as a majority and I feel pretty safe here.

Fried food is popular, and a good salad can be hard to find. Alot of Texans think that brisket is God's gift to meat, which is debatable. But by and large the food is good. Big white Ford trucks are also very popular for some reason.

I like TX and I'm glad that I live here now although I do sometimes miss the west coast. I would tell people that TX is great once you get to know it a little.
