Well, let's see. I have a different approach on this. I'm a very concrete person myself, which makes me a poor liar. I've never been able to get away with it, so I stray away.
You're living in a world that rewards liars. It's not about untruthfulness, but how well you can track your lies, keep up with them, and circumvent confrontation when it occurs. I can assure you from experience that no one respects an honest individual. Humans assess reality iconically and metaphorically, which predisposes them to having an aversion to absolute truth. I've found that you cannot ever get anyone to listen to you unless you "spice up" what you have to say.
Only if you can learn to play the game well with this inherent human trait serve you well. Toss out the pseudo-moralistic crap that everyone here is feeding you. The biggest liars I know have high self-esteem. They know how to guage others, what to say and not to say, and when to say it. Most importantly, they know how to play with the surface emotions of others.
Again, it's about the game, and how you play the cards you're dealt. It also helps if you can emotionally believe a little of the BS you dispense when you dispense it. Coming clean with people is even worse than being honest (i.e. boring) to begin with. You've shifted poles, and collectively, that's percieved as a "bail out". Others see you as saying "Oh, so you're not gonna play with us".
The world you see around you is one big collective illusion. You can moralise it, but your morality will only be limited to your own perception. The best way to get by is to stop dwelling on your own deceptions and take notice of others. What are they getting away with, and how?
Perhaps the real problem is that you're honest than you think you are. Others are so caught up in the collective illusion that they don't even realise that everything they recieve and reiterate is a lie.

sometimes when people lie they don't remember who they said what to so either their stories are different or they just use the same lie with everyone. a lot of times people feel like they need to make their stories more exciting or be more interesting to other people. you might feel better about coming clean but people would probably view you really bad....I would just try to start telling the truth because your real friends should take you for how you are. Besides, when you tell the truth you don't have to remember who you said what to

As it sounds, you are coming to realize, the devastating effect on the liar himself is severe. The subconscious mind does not determine truth from non-truth. When we lie our sub-conscious mind records our statements as the way it is whether or not it is true. The eventual outcome of lying is losing touch with reality.
That is where the saying "what a tangled web we weave, when first we set our to deceive" comes from.
You don't have to come clean to everyone, only the people that you want to respect you.

Just tell the truth about things. That way you don't weave a web of twisted jargon to try to remember. You think you are making a confession, but really you're not. The people that know you the best are aware of your problem, but they love you anyway. Simplify your life and from today on, stick to the real facts. Your life will become so much less stressful.

pathological liars are not fabricating stories because of cover-ups, they do not have any reason to lie but they took it as a habit and they test themselves on how far they can pretend. lol i know, i had an ex-girlfriend who is a pathological liar.

Continually lying will destroy everything. Yes, come clean. Because we as humans, are born with the natural ability to display sinful actions, we need to turn to Jesus for forgiveness and guidance, in order not to mess up our lives and to gain eternal life. He paid the price for us.

People who lie have to have a great memory - to know which lie was told to which person. If you tell the truth about stuff, there's no worries.

You need to be truthful to yourself before you can be truthful to others. What masks are you wearing? Remove the mask and see what is behind it; then accept the person behind the mask.
