Maybe he's just comfortable sleeping on the couch instead of his bed, and maybe the bed might need some 'breaking in' since you say it is new.
Otherwise, he might be afraid of sleeping alone or something.

How old is your brother? If he's younger than 10 there are a few different explanations for his behavior.
1) He is afraid of the dark and/or thinks a monster is in the closet.
Solution: Install a night-light and show him that there is no monster, possibly even sitting in a chair until he falls asleep for a couple of nights.
2)He has developed a condition similar to "sleep regression" in which he feels the need to be close to his parents. It is strange that he does not insist on sleeping in your parents' room if this is the case.
Solution: Seek counseling to determine the cause of this condition. Often a traumatic experience such as a car accident, a broken bone, sexual assault, or abuse can trigger sleep regression.

Hey I have an uncle that does the same thing he sleeps on the couch and in front of the TV and he cant sleep unless its on but he says that he sleeps there because he is comfortable but i think its because when my grandpa died he died in his sleep in own bed next to my gram and that why he isn't comfortable any more . but as to why your bro does it , sry don't know why maybe he is scared of something , or the fact that on a couch u only have so must room to move and he feel safe .

hey! dont get mad at him, My parents already chewed me today for the same reason; for sleeping on a couch even after i got a new bed. You just get so used to the comfort and for having people wake for school or just the comfort of family nearby or he's lazy like me and dont want to go into his room and its easy to watch tv get tired roll over and just go to sleep.
Well, thats my opinion hopefully I helped you understand your brother better, but now i feel better knowing im not the only one with that problem. Good Luck!!!

But you didn't say how old her is. It sounds like he might be freaked out by being in a room alone or too far from your parents. Definitely needs to be looked into though. Your parents frustration won't help.

Get rid of his bed and move the coutch into his bedroom. If you wake up in the middle of the night and find him sleeping on the floor next to your parents room, then you know it has nothing to do with back pain!!!

With some children the close feeling you have with your parents makes them feel more comfortable, or like myself the couch is sometimes more comfortable than my bed depends on how my day went & other things. He may grow out of it or simply need another matress? Remember peace, love, patients!
