Hi. Yes home ovulation kits do work. You need to follow the instructions, though to get a good result. Ovulation tests are some times called OPK (ovulation predictor kits). OPKs measure luteinizing hormone (LH) in your urine, which is present in your body at some degree all the time, but surges dramatically 12-36 hours before ovulation. So, the test will check for a surge in LH, which gives you a window of warning as to when to be intimate with your partner (if trying to conceive), and in knowing that you will soon ovulate. The trick is in using the kit correctly. Read the OPK instructions carefully, as the results are read very differently than HPTs, even though they look JUST like HPT. You must also test twice a day in order not to miss your surge. I am linking to a website below that has tons of good info on OPKs and how to use them and interpret them. Good luck to you. Hope that helps.

For the most part they do work if used correctly. Each is different so you need to follow the specific instructions of the kit yo use. Some women have a hard time using them because the LH is not strong enough in their urine just like some women can't test positive on a HPT because their HCG doesn't make it to their urine (not that common) Good Luck!!
