Its part of growing up...its can be related to immaturity....for some its a part of making a statement, in an attempt to find their idenity. Some people conform to what they think others want them to be. It can often be unfortunate, because being labeled can often hurt, and severely damage self esteem. Be secure in yourself, confident, and know that you don't have to conform.

Sounds like yo know who you are and who you want to be. The others that insist on stereotypes for themselves are probably insecure and need to put themselves in a catagory. The want to fit in, belong somewhere, they are lost souls looking for an identity. As far as calling you names, they are just giving you their perception of what catagory they put you in. Jealousy could be a factor her.
Fitting into a label makes you what? a copy of someone else?
YOU< however are an idividual who does not need the crutch of a label to live and thrive. Good for you. Be a trendsetter, not a follower. Your attitude will take you great places

Take a psychology class, and pay attention when they cover personal development. While there is some variation, its commonly believed that teenagers are at the point in their lives where they develop their own personal identity, and part of that is by trying out different styles while looking for acceptance.

They are afraid to be different and be picked on. It is easier for them to follow instead of lead.
