What car would be the best option for creating a tuner car. It could be and import or domestic. I would like to spend $8,000 or less and it could be a 2002 or newer model. I want something that does good with a turbo upgrade. The kicker is that I want a rear wheel drive car.

Surprise me with you briliance!

A Supra is out of the price range!

A Supra is a 2wd

It would also be a good choice for a tuner car, but is too expensive. A friend of mine bought a 1995 with 60k mile for $16K stock.

Turbo Eclipse. 1990-1999.
Most people seem to forget about these cars. They can be found CHEAP. Parts are not that expensive...heck, you already have the turbo system in place. Stock motors can handle a good amount of power. Look for a GSX, this is the AWD turbo.

Check out my source for lots of knowledge.

edit: Didn't see the RWD request. lol, but atleast you have a different opinion. I love supras, but they are just ridiculously expensive. Maybe an RX7 with a turbo eclipse motor swap? lol

Yes, a Toyota Supra is a good choice and it is RWD. I would suggest to get a 1987 to about 1992 model. You should find a good turbo with a 5sp trans at about the price you are looking. They are easy to power tune and Greddy make alot of upgrade parts. I would go with a bigger turbo and exhaust and a HKS intake. Your second option would be either a Fox body style 79-93 Mustang GT or 3rd Generation F-body with a V8. These cars are in big supply, so you shouldn't have a hard time finding one under $8,000. I would figure you could find one in good condition for about $4,000. I would take rest of the money to upgrade the engine or buy a supercharger for more power. As for a Mustang GT model , Summit Racing has a lot of Cobra upgrades for the GT model 5.0 V8. Summit also has plenty of parts for the TPI(Tuned Port Injection) 350 or 305 Camaro V8.

Below are some suggestive links for Supra and Summit Racing.

I have personally owned a 1986.5 Toyota Supra and a 1992 Camaro RS V8.

toyota supra, not sure if its rear wheel....also may be out of your price range....its just like any typical situation, you want a fast car, even to burn rubber with and want it to be a hot rod its gonna cost some bux, and getting a junk car is like making a racehorse out of a jackass. Just make sure you research everything and know what your getting yourself into before you do anything. 8K almost sounds like too little for what your looking for. Best wishes and happy car hunting.

Nothing from Japan. In fact there is no car after 2002 RWD that's going to do all that for $8000. Not that in any decent shape. Double your funds and than maybe.

The only place to race is on the track - don't end up a dead driver on the road or maybe kill someone else

No such thing as a "Street race car" Just dumb guys that go fast in the wrong places (the street) and create problems for the guys with good "street rods". (We don't "street race"... )
