I mean Iran wants technology for energy and stuff why are we denying other countries not to develop these technologies are we jealous that they will become some powerful being when the fact is we seem to always be the leaders of the whole world when I think we should allow others to make a choice as long as they make the right choices like use technology for a purpose and not to harm civilization.

Iran, for one, has shown specific intent to use technology in a harmful way by building nuclear weapons. It's not so much that the United States doesn't want other countries to have the same level of technological advances that we have. It's just that the U.S. doesn't want other countries to use their technology to create a potentially harmful situation for the world. We have no problem with supplying other countries with computers and other inventions to make life more convenient.

The United States would have no problem if this technology was being used for energy, but the simple truth is that it is not being used for this purpose. Iran is very motivated to develop a nuclear weapon. Their enemy Israel is a nuclear power, they wish to balance this power. The United States, in a 2002 State of the Union address, grouped them with North Korea and Iraq in the "Axis of Evil". We know North Korea has nuclear weapons, we negotiate with North Korea, we knew Iraq did not have nuclear weapons, we invade Iraq. Possessing nuclear weapons changing the way the US will deal with them. The fact that the US military is in Afghanistan to Iran's east and Iraq to Iran's west also probably has them feeling a little nervous and insecure. I would feel that way too if I was in their shoes. It makes sense that Iran would try to develop a nuclear weapon.

If by "technology," you mean "nuclear technology," it's simple -- we don't trust them. The process which produces fuel for nuclear power can also be used to make nuclear weapons. If really pressed, we can get over some countries having nukes (such as Pakistan and India), but others, essentially, are too crazy.

For other things, it's pretty simple -- we spent money on developing it, and we're not going to just give it away.

Because the United States knows that the United States isn't going to do something completely insane. There's no guarantee another country wouldn't. Seeing as how nuclear technology could completely destroy the entire earth in the wrong hands, it's just not worth it to let its use become widespread. It's like if you had a machine gun and some random guy knocked on your door and asked if he could borrow it... would you just hand it to him?

It has nothing to do with energy ambitions. Its to do with unstable country leaders with nuclear capabilities, and nothing else. didn't North Korea say the same? Yeah....its the same thing.
