If you can vote, buy cigarettes, and star in porno movies at age 18, then why not be allowed to drink at age 18? While we're on the subject however I think the age to get a drivers license should be RAISED to 18, and I think the voting age in this country should be raised to 25. What the hell does an 18 year old fresh out of high school know about who's the most qualified person to run our country when chances are they're still living with their parents????

YES! Drunk driving rates for one. In countrys where it is not such a big deal to turn 21 and go binge on your birthday, drunk driving rates are much lower.
I'm going to say that again for the people who cite DUIs as a reason not to. there is a positive correlation between nations with high drunk driving rates and nations with high drinking ages. A very strong correlation. Yes, nations with lower drinking ages have much less of a drunk driving problem then nations with high legal ages.
Here in the US, we make such a big deal out of it that when we're finally allowed to drink, we don't know how to drink in moderation and wind up not drinking responsibly.
If you learn to drink responsibly at an early age with parent supervision though, you're not going to have nearly as many problems with it. It should be lowered to age 16 at oldest, many countries have it much younger if they have a minimum age at all. I would say 12 for wine and Beer, 16 for hard liquors.

No, As it is, it is available to anyone that might want it over 11 years of age. Why lower it, so that they can get there hands on it more often.
In the 70's Illinois lowered it to 19, Deaths in the 15-18 years old rose 40%, mostly in motor vehicle, but also in drug interaction, and suicide, and youth pregnancy. Violence in the schools was up, and was often related to alcohol.

Well maybe to age 20 , Europe the drinking age is like 18 or something of course they have more of an open society then we do we have very strict laws here in the United States Our government doesn't trust us. I think it should be lowered totally it's not fair that europe is allowing there youth to drink at an early age.

I personally think that if 18 year olds can be drafted into the army and possibly lose their life then they should also be allowed to drink. So yes I think the drinking age should be lowered to 18.

I hope they don't lower the drinking age because so many young adults are already abusing alcohol to the point they have to go to the ER. What about car accidents, teenage boys have the worst track record driving and if we allow them to drink it will be even worse more kids and other motorist will die in accidents.

No...being in the MIlitary and traveling the world.
Seeing the drinking age at 18 and 19 during my
years.
There is no reason. We been there and tried it.
Do you really think your Son or Daughter who is in college
is not drinking. Spring break in Florida...do you think they are
not drinking. Now you want one more drunk on the road.
Military members should be allowed to drink on base within the states. But that is because they do die for their country.
It's not the same for some wannabe rich punk who could join the services and die for his country. Mommy or Daddy wouldn't allow that.
I would not want 18, 19 20 yr olds buying and drinking and driving.

In australia we can drink at age 18, it works out ok here.
there are always going to be unruly twats, but they're quite often 21 and older anyway. Education in order to make alcohol abuse and drink driving socially unacceptable is where we are focusing our efforts.
