Why are you doing your kids homework anyway? Let him /her come up with a rhyme or something. Who cares if it isn't the best in the world. He/she is in 1st grade! It's supposed to be simple. Don't stress.
Suggestion for 1st grade writing: Let him/her draw a picture first. Then write about it.

On the sand beside the sea, seven swans are sipping tea. The sun shining on their wings. They sing gracefully, sitting on the hot beach sand. One swan hands the other the sugar. It falls on a passing duck, who turns white. The duck didn't get burned by the sun because of the sugar. Then, all the geese thought he was their brother, so they invited him for supper.

And the little fishies in the sea,
Say what a funny sight to see.
Edit: This is the 1st grade, right? Sorry I couldn't do better. It's a start.

um, are you a parent dong your first grader's homework? How does that help your kid? It doesn't. It's first grade for crying out loud, and it won't effect your kid's college scores, so relax and explain what rhyming is your your kid, and have them write it down. It will be fine, it really will. Just guide, never ever do it for them. You actually are doing more harm than good by letting your kid know that you will continue to do their work for them...you really want to do that?

One of them looked up at me,
As on his wing sat a bumblebee.
Oh well :)
