So, I know a couple of goths, and they wear cool clothes, and listen to good music, but what is goth REALLY? Don't worry I know they aren't Satanic, or anything. But from a goth I would really like to know: What is goth to YOU?

Being goth has nothing to do with what clothes you wear or music you listen to, it is a way of thinking and seeing the world. The clothes that goths wear and the music that goths listen to is just a reflection of that mindset. Goths see that there is extreme pain and evil in the world, along with the good. Instead of condemning it or ignoring it, goths accept these things as a part of life and try and enjoy the good along with the bad, since they can't stop the bad from happening. They are not obsessed with death, they just accept it as an inevitability. They do not try and cause more pain in their (or anybody else's) lives, since there is plenty to start with. Goths tend to be kind, intelligent, non-violent, emotional, and artistic.

Dark, mysterious, oooooooooooooooo. I am a vampire but I am afraid of blood and gore so I think I'll inflict pain on myself by piercing and tattoos. I wear pagan, satanic, symbols because I know all the secrets of the world beyond. I am tough because I wear pointy stuff. I am out of style but I think I am trendy. I am an outcast discriminated by those evil preppies. It goes on and on. Sometimes true somtimes not. When you see something that looks like it might be goth it is goth. You cannot be goth without piercings, tattoos, or some sort of jewelry or haircut if you are naked. Without those things you cannot be a goth. No one is just goth when they are born. They become goth after they copy others.

Oh yes, goths have self-esteem issues and worship satan... COME ON, PEOPLE!
Just wear what you like and don't try to fit a stereotype. Goth is a style of dress, sure, but I prefer to transcend labels, don't you?

goth is a stereotype...... you dont need to label yourslef.. if you like the clothes wear em and if you like the music listen to it..........trying to be goth is really sort of pathetic........ seriousely now .......

It's not cool. These people often suffer from mental and self esteem issues. It's not healthy.
