I'LL TELL YOU EXACTLY WHAT YOU'RE SMELLING...
It's the urine around, under and behind the bowl where your boyfriend "misses" his mark.
Look for those telltale "yellow stains" in the local vicinity of the toilet.

I have a friend who sanitizes bathrooms and at work we had the same problem (lots of men) and she showed me why when I cleaned it didn't eliminate the problem. She has a mirror on a stick that you can put under the inside rim of the bowl and you wouldn't believe the grossness!!!
Urine has staying power!
They sell chemical sanitizers that break that down, but if you don't want to use all those nasty chemicals, try getting hot water with dissolved oxy clean in it (use the measurements on the container) and a light steel wool to scrub under the rim, be careful on other parts of the toilet because some can be scratched by steel wool and it would leave marks.
But no one sees under the rim.
Also around the toilet on the floor and walls are sometimes a problem. Good luck!

Men miss a lot. It's probably urine that has seeped into the tiles around the toilet (even behind the toilet). Poor bleach around the toilet (make sure the house is well venitlated (let a window or 2 up) and just let it sit for a couple of hours before cleaning.

The smell probably isn't coming from inside the toilet. First, check to see if the caulk is sealing the toilet between the floor and the bowl. If that's intact check behind the bowl and any walls that are close.
Like it or not when the guys stand and do their business, the urine kinda sprays all over. I know that sounds gross, but facts are facts.
Hope this helps. Have a great day.

P.S. the sealant is just a good bath tub/sink/toilet caulk and actually its quite easy to apply.

The seal between the floor and the toilet bowl is likely damaged. It doesn't matter how much you are scrubbing, if the seal is porous or broken, or if the toilet bowl is not tightly fixed to the floor, odor will filter through the base.

A seal can be bought in any hardware store, and it is very cheap. The trick is to install it properly. It is recommended to have it done by someone who knows exactly how to do it, otherwise, the problem will remain.

Did you check the tank? It could be ghastly. Also, the front of the toilet bowl may have caked-on dry urine that may have run down it's sides. And what about the water itself? Is the cesspool backed up? Try bleach, RidX, and/or dumping some dish detergent into the tank & bowl, then flush it after 15 min.

Perhaps the urine is outside of the bowl and under the actual toilet itself. If he's peed on the toilet and missed the bowl, it can run to the bottom and between the toilet and floor. Also check the seat.

Could be coming from the floor around it if it's porous. Use bleach if possible, let it soak in but ventilate properly for about 10 minutes; then use soap and water. Use gloves as bleach can burn your skin. You may also have pour drainage and need to flush out the sewerage lines. If the initial bleaching doesn't help go to your local Home Depot for help in finding the right chemicals to treat the sewer lines. Good luck.

here are a few answers. dont just clean the toilet, with guys you have to clean the whole area next to and around the toilet. #2 there is a wax seal under toilet, it could be leaking and soaking into subfloor. remember, males splash when they urinate so consider that when you clean. he is a lucky man to have someone so thoughtfull.

I would try removing the toilet seat. Where it joins the porcelan is the place where and misses harbour bad yucky bacteria. Trust me I worked with kids and before toilet seat had to be removed as health and safety reasons we had to take them off daily to clean. You would be surprise how quickly it becomes gross.
