My daughter starting smoking a few months ago. She's way, way too young. What's the best way, or resource so I can get her to stop.

I do smoke, so it's a bad example. I don't wanna be mean or hard on her either.

Quit smoking together. I dont know where you're from but in Oz we have the quitline, they can send you any information you want; from how to quit to the medical effects of smoking. Show her some really nasty pictures of diseased lung tissue, show her the list of toxic chemicals in ciggarettes (benzine, used in rat poison, for example) and tell her about how smoking ages you faster and causes wrinkles and yellow teeth.

Hmm, tough one. Encouraging her to get involved in sports (if she's not already) might help. Any activity where smoking is frowned upon - or is detrimental in a quite obvious way could make her think twice. Because you smoke - perhaps you could take the 'I don't want you too end up like me' approach rather than the 'Do as I say - not as I do approach'. Make sure that she is aware of ALL the health and social risks involved and inform her that, the longer you smoke the harder it is to quit. (And you would know) Approach the situation with concern rather than anger - otherwise she will think that you are a hypocrite. You might also want to ask her the reason why she started smoking and why she is choosing to continue...she probably won't really give you an answer, however, with any luck she might begin to question herself. Although the truth is; most people don't DO things for a reason, but rather they have a reason NOT to do things. So, your best bet is probably to work on finding her something that provides her with a good reason to choose not to want to smoke....Good Luck.

Quit with her. Make it a joint project that you'll both complete successfully. Make a goal, meet it, get a reward. Like health.

Nothing you say is going to really register as long as you're smoking. She'll think you're hypocritical, because that's what young people will notice.....contradiction.

So.....you love her enough to want her to stop. Do you love her enough to stop yourself?

You can do it! The nicotine lozenges are REALLY effective. There's also a new product, a hand gel. I think Wal-Green's is gonna carry it; it's from the U.K. The sooner you stop, the sooner you can celebrate such a tremendous victory.....together.

my aunt with through with this with her daughter... Try what she did, go talk to a doctor in your spare time... Try to ake an injury, show her smoking is a bad thing, fake an asthma attack or cancer in some case, she'll understand why you did it much later in life... If you don't want to fake it, may I suggest my own treatment? Have her interview someone whom has had a major effect due to cigarette smoking or even 2nd hand exposure. hope all works out, remember, "In your daughters eyes you see the impact from her mother"

Really talk to her, tell her that you just want the best for her. you dont want her to smoke because it is a health hazard. Tell her it is hard to quit, one reason why you are still smoking. Tell her not to think that she is strong and she can quit anytime she wants because that's gonna be a mistake. Or make a pact, you will both quit. good luck.

Quit smoking and find an incentive for her to follow suit.

You know your daughter way better than anyone here. With my daughter, I let her know how much money it would cost in yearly amounts, how much money she was giving the government in taxes, etc.....

You BLEW IT babe. you're what is called a "enabler". If you've already permitted her to start & she can do it openly, it's now a dead issue ; she's hooked. she's gonna have 2 quit on her own.
