mechanics of hunger pangs are? I know when you feel them it's like your brain telling you that you're hungry, but what is going on in your stomach that actually causes them?

By the way, this is a semi-serious question for a serious 10 pts!

It's not your stomach, and it's only very indirectly your brain.

Actually, it's your hypothalmus (which is in the same ZIP code as your brain, but isn't part of it). When your blood sugar gets low, the hypothalmus shoots out some hormones (never mind which) that make your liver unhappy. And that's where the feeling comes from, a sad sad liver.
