Read the information at your computers home page on the Internet about your system. See if the Video Card needs a separate power supply.
My ATI card has a jack on the old ALL-IN-WONDER 9700 Pro and the power supply on my computer had the extra plug, which is used generally for a 3.5 inch floppy disk drive.
My computer came with a 200 Watt Power Supply. I found out that it was a low end Power Supply, cheap O, so I got it a 400 Watt Power Supply which provided the amperage necessary for all my little Amperage Using devices.
Today's computers in stores should have a minimum of 400 Watt Power Supplies, but don't count on it.

Just open the case, and check the side of the box that your power cord is plugged into. It should have a model number such as ATX500 or something similar. The 500 means 500 Watts. On some, it may just flat out say "500 Watts". It should be fairly easy to find though, you honestly can do it with your PC still powered on, just try not to touch anything inside the case!

If it is not stamped on the back of the power supply - open the case and check - it will be marked on the power supply - can only see it by opening up.
