There was a Islamic influence in the Philippines and Indonesia
in the early 1900's. Marcos in the Philippines held any protest in check, even democratic protests.

The Philippines is mostly Catholic, influenced from Spain, such as Mexico and Cuba and the Caribbean, the areas of the world that Spain discovered or even conquered. The cold war is not responsible for the spread of Islam but the defeat of Communism which appears to be alive and well in the Democratic party and Hollywood.
