I'm assuming the signal you're getting is from a neighbor's wireless connection. I wouldn't recommend using it, especially for any type of personal information. Anyone running that connection could monitor and see anything you do on the internet through that connection.
Your best solution is to go out and buy a Wireless G router (I personally recommend Linksys brand), hook it through your broadband modem, and make SURE to go through the setup, change your SSID (and again, personal recommendation that you should turn off SSID Broadcasting, this makes your router invisible to anyone else that might be looking for a connection), and make sure to add security. If you're around a lot of other people, and in a city, use the highest WPA encryption that your router offers. If you're out in the country, and live around hardly anyone, WEP encryption is just simpler to work with, but not nearly as secure as WPA.

No, not really, but remember, if you can connect to someone else's wireless connection then it means their network is unencrypted which means all of your activity is unencrypted too (you're on their network). Your computer is just as vulnerable as theirs The best thing to do is get your own router, setup your own network and then activate encryption.
