My angelfish is 3 years old, has always lived alone, and it just laid eggs. Are the eggs fertilized (hermaphroditic fish?) or does there have to be a male and a female? Just curious if these eggs will hatch, or just die off
Any info would be great!
Thanks!

Heh...

Now for the real answer.

Yeah, this happened to me many times.

They will die off. The Angelfish will protect them for a while. But they will die off or get eaten (even by the Angelfish herself). They will not hatch.

Weird behaviour but cool to see.

Yes you do need a male and female BTW. They pair off if you get a bunch of young ones together.

funny thing this happened to my fish one time. i got all excited. lack of sleep or something.... i hurried up and moved all my fish around so not one would eat the eggs..... after i was all done i realized there wasn't a male angelfish to fertilize the eggs. :( i felt so silly. i should have known better cus i worked @ a petstore!! if you want to have baby angelfish though you should get a mate. and see what happens. good luck!

if the eggs turn white and kindof cloudy they are unfertilized. you do need a male and female to get fertilized eggs. the female will (lay) them and the male will come behind and fertilize them so if you have eggs and no male these should just be tossed. sorry to burst your bubble!

get a male angelfish, get him to fetilize them, and wait till they hatch...otherwise the eggs r useless
