Hi everyone. I have a quick question. I had surgery February 22nd and I had been taking an antibiotic for infection and whatnot afterwards. The last time I took a birth control was the night before my surgery. It's already an exact week since I had taken a pill and I plan on starting them again tonight. How long does it usually take to get back into your system again? Just curious. Thanks!!

Doctors will tell you to use a condom for at least another month after you stop. I think they just want to be extra careful, but it's not a bad idea.

Hope you're feeling better though!! Surgery can be stressful, but it sounds like you're doing well!

It takes at least thirty days, during which you will need to use a backup form of protection(condom). To be safe, you should use the back up until you have completed your second month of pills. Make sure you are taking them at the same time each day.

I'd use another method of birth control (in addition to your birth control pills) for one full cycle of the pills. That way, you can be relatively certain that you will be protected against an unwanted pregnancy.

You should use a back up method for an entire pack of pills.
