We live in a one story house, with NO interior rooms. Our closets have mirrored sliding doors. Where should we seek shelter in the event of a tornado?

We have NO basement )and none of our neighbors do either). Every room except the bathroom has windows in it. The bathroom is with 5 feet of the hot water heater also. Wouldn't it be dangerous to be near there if a tornado went through and made it explode?

BG, you're a jerk. I know what to do in case of a tornado; I just wanted to know WHERE the best place in my own home would be. The idiots in my school system had us go into an open hallway and get into the "tornado drill position". It wouldn't have helped much if a real tornado was there.

There is really too little information to give you a good answer. I would contact your local National Weather Service office if you live in the United States or your local emergency or safety official. They can then provide you with more information or refer you to someone who can help you. To contact you local NWS office...click on the following link.

http://www.wrh.noaa.gov/wrh/nwspage.php

You will see an interactive map of all the local NWS offices. Click on the closest office to you. Once you get to your local NWS web page, find the office contact information. This information is can usually be found at the bottom of each web page or on the blue left side menu bar. You can also email the local NWS webmaster too.

Hope this information will be helpful to you.

Who said Injurly?

Did you have tornado drills when you were a kid in school? They would have instructed you of the best way to survive blowing debris in a tornado.

I would suggest that you contact the nearest school to observe a tornado drill in progress. It's hard to explain, but you need to hunch over, on your knees, in a fetal position, and protect the back of your neck with your hands. Your local fire department can also give you materials on this.

I HIGHLY suggest that you contact your local school or fire department. Seeing as how you are concerned but uneducated, this is the best way to learn the skills that you need to know when a tornado strikes.

Otherwise, get a blanket to cover yourself. Get to the lowest level of the house. If there is a bathtub, get in it, protect yourself from blowing glass or debris, and be prepared for more tornadoes. Don't think that the storm is over until after half an hour.

Most TV weather reporters recommend a bathtub with a mattress over the top of you in case of a tornado. That is if there are no other options.

facing away from glass, such as between windows OR a hallway OR a basement OR facing an interior wall in a tornado position.

If the climate could get severe adequate which you should take shield, proceed to be calm. If accessible get to the backside point of the development/abode and/or an indoors room or section. this may well be a community without abode windows nor partitions that share with the exterior. cellular residences/Double wides/Trailers are no longer risk-free places to be throughout a twister or promptly line winds. in case you may, get to a sturdier development. in case you may no longer get to a sturdier shield, then discover a low ditch or culvert and lay flat as may well be face down. bear in mind, proceed to be CALM!

Okay, if its like that then I would go under the table, and put a blanket over myself, with pillows. That will prevent you from getting injurly hurt.
