Lead melts at such a low temperature that you can make molds of plaster of paris that is thoroughly dry. I molded plasticine clay to the shape I wanted and pushed the end of the selected handle through the soft clay for the handle mount. I then used plaster to first model the inside to make a core and then used standard split molding techniques to copy the outside. I made plaster cores to insert in the split mold to preserve the hole and poured the lead from one end, digging the core out afterward.
