I am travelling to australia next year and I'm wondering if there is an online resource for housing postings, kind of like how craigslist works, but in australia. I feel like australia hasn't really jumped on the craiglist boat yet.
any ideas/suggestions?

Type in your browser the name of the city and state your moving to, then "reality". It will give you lists of things you can use.

you can contact the chamber of commerce they could send you booklets of apt complexs and ral estae. you can check apt. in yellow pages. on line. or real estate in yellow pages on line also there is craigs list in everycity on line lots of rentals and houses for saleon craigs list
