I know that you can get a firewire card for a desktop if you have an available "slot". BUT I have a LAPTOP so there are no slots - but would i be able to attach a firewire card to the laptop anyway (I don't care if the card is hanging off by a cable/looks crappy). thanks in advance!

You can't attach an internal firewire card to a laptop. If your laptop has a pcmcia slot you can purchase a special pcmcia card that gives your laptop firewire capabilities. Run off to your local computer store, office supply store, Best Buy, or whatever and check out what they have. Read the cards requirements carefully and make sure that it's compatible with your laptop. Then look for good deals for the card online.

well if your laptop isn't 50 years old, you should have a slot on the right or on the left... you just need to buy a PCIII (or something like that). i had to buy one too because i didn't have any firewire port to connect my digital camera, and this worked like a charm! hope this helped!
