Turkey is your best example. Some people may not want to believe it but Turkey is a vibrant democracy.

Providing for their freedom is important and is still progressing. Whether they adopt a democracy or a representative republic (which is what the US is) will depend on their elected leaders.

As for Iraq, at least the totalitarian tyrant is gone. Now if they can stop the Iranians from bringing all those WMD's back in and arming and training the terrorists, the country might have a chance to continue its free status. I certainly wish them the best.

Yes. But I think you meant to ask "can democracy coexist within a fanatical Islamic dominated culture." In that situation No. Because fanatical Islam is authoritative

NO. When a country is dominated by religion it has a theocracy and theocracy and democracy don't co exist. Moslem countries can't have democracy as the church dictates everyone's actions.

Many Americans would like that sort of government here, where the church dictates everyone's actions here. Many Americans don't like democracy at all but just call our government "democracy" when democracy in America has been gone for years. We now have a border line Theocracy and Republic. A Theocracy is where the Church makes all the rules and a Republic is where big business makes all the rules. We're between a rock and a hard place in the U.S.

The following list indicates those countries which are members of the Organization of the Islamic Conference and are either generally considered to be democratic or have substantial democratic elements in their system of government. Furthermore, the political climate in some of these countries has varied greatly in recent years, while in some of the countries there have been accusations of vote-rigging.

The percentage of Muslims in each country is sourced from CIA FactBook

* Albania (Europe) (70% Muslim)
* Algeria (North Africa) (99%)
* Bangladesh (South Asia) (83%)
* Comoros (South eastern Africa) (98%)

Yes there are, but their stability is always in question. The problem is that separation of church and state comes naturally to Christians ("Render unto Caesar that which is Caesar's, render unto God that which is God's"), whereas non-theocratic governments are heretical by definition to Muslims.
