"Platoon," because it was more realistic.
"Apocalypse Now" was abstract, surreal and artistic, but "Platoon" was gritty, violent and very graphic.
"Apocalypse" was not really about war per se, but more about "the heart of darkness that lies beneath us all" or something "humanistic" like that. Coppola's film was inspired by Conrad's novel.
"Platoon," on the other hand, was about the Vietnam war, pure and simple, inspired by Stone's experience in the conflict. It vividly showed that the Vietnam war was nothing short of hellish.
I would enjoy watching "Apocalypse Now" again, because there were so many humorous and mesmerizing scenes in that film.
It will be difficult for me to sit through "Platoon" again, and that is a testament to its power.

Platoon. Apocalypse Now was a disjointed, uneven attempt that slowed to a crawl once Martin Sheen finally got to Brando's camp. There's some good stuff in it, but nowhere near as cohesive as Platoon.

I'd vote for that failed attempt of a masterpiece Apocalypse Now. It tried to do so much more even though Platoon was a perfectly executed, war-is-hell morality tale.

While they are both incredible movies, with outstanding performances, Apocalypse Now is by far the best!

Hmmm, Coppola vs Stone. It's a tough call but platoon did win an Oscar for best picture so I'll have to say platoon.

Obviously you were never in NAM. I spent two tours there with the 25th Infantry. We were all over the southern end from the Delta to Tay Ninh. Both of those pictures suck. They were the figment of Jane Fonda's imagination.
