Most unions are unfair and totally corrupt these days. Not all, but most. The teacher's union is the worst and is almost completely responsible for the lack of education in our government (public) schools.

Your second sentence is completely incoherent, thus proving my point.

That is a fake management excuse . . .
usually they ask the entry level suits to spin that.
Anyone can still be fired for non-performance of duties.
The employees are the core productive unit of any company but without the union the suits will suck all the $$$$$ their direction and dispose of any worker like kleenex on a whim.
They showed their true colors for ages until unions were formed . . . study your history.
Workers smart enough to understand the big picture know the union (although a human organization and not necessarily perfect) is their only chance of NOT getting the crap end of the $$$$$ till.

Lazy workers are not the fault of the union but of management not properly motivating them and disciplining them. Remember that all employees are entitled to the benefits that the union has negotiated for you. If there are enough of you, you can vote to de-certifiy. Don't know what the laws are in your area, but probably if a simple majority of the membership vote to de-certify, that should be enough.

If you think you can go it alone, and do better without union protection, go for it.

Don't work any harder than you are required to do. Your employer doesn't appreciate it and won't give you any extra reward. They'll just laugh that they're getting more than their money's worth out of you.
