Try scrubbing it with a baking soda solution. Baking soda absorbs odors. Try mixing some baking soda with a little vinegar and water. Let it sit in the microwave for a few minutes and then remove it. That should be able to get rid of the smell.

If the smell is still coming out of the vents and into the foods you are heating/cooking in the microwave, try getting a coffee cup/mug, fill it a quarter with water and a quarter lemon juice (the lemon juice in a bottle is fine) place it into the microwave until it boils, then let it stand in there for 5 minutes, repeat if necessary..Your microwave will have a citrus smell, then grab a paper towel and just wipe around the walls of your microwave, the steam will also loosen any stains/grime from the microwave.
I steamed fish in the microwave and the smell that was fermenting through the house was terrible and everything I heated up after that had the odour of the fish, I tried the above method and it worked a treat, now I clean my microwave this way all the time...
Good Luck

Chop up a lemon and wipe it round the sides of the microwave then put the lemon pieces in a microwaveable dish and put some water over it and heat for a couple of mins leave it in the mic to cool down and then rinse the inside of the microwave.
I always do this to freshen it up. The lemon smells lovely when cooling too.

Take a new sponge, dampen it with warm water. Sprinkle a small amount of baking soda on the sponge. Work in the baking soda with your finger, just until it isn't loose on the surface. Wipe out the inside of the microwave, thoroughly, every surface. Follow with another wipedown with a sponge and plain water (don't use the same one) should be fine. Let it sit for about an hour after you wipe with the baking soda (which is a miraculous little harmless cleaner)

Real vanilla extract wiped on with a paper towel and left to dry is good. Put a dish of dry coffee grounds, not used, in the microwave and leave it overnight with the door closed.
But, there is a chance you burned some of the interior plastic parts in your oven, so it might be time for a new one. I know that smell, it's hideous so you have my sympathy.
