I am not afraid of heights and I really really want to go skydiving but I just don't think it's worth risking your life for that few minutes of flying! Do you think i'm crazy or should I go for it

No. I could see if the airplane were on fire, but why jump out of a perfectly good airplane?

You should educate yourself on the risks before you go. Some malfunctions to the main parachute are able to be corrected (for example, if there are twists in the lines, one can kick out of them and will be fine). Others, you will have to cut away your main parachute and deploy your reserve. Your reserve parachute is pretty much guaranteed to work. A main parachute is packed in 5-20 minutes, and costs about 5 dollars for a packjob. A reserve parachute takes 2 hours to pack and can ONLY be packed by a person specially qualified to do so, packjobs cost 50 dollars.

if you go on a tandem skydive, you will not have to worry about deploying the canopy or any emergency procedures, that is your tandem-master's job and you are just going along for the ride.

I say, jump. Any real skydiver will tell you that the benefit that comes from jumping outweighs the risk.

PS- the drive there is more dangerous than the actual jump- you don't have a "backup" car, do you?

Last year there were a little over 100 people killed in the US by lightning. There were a little over 30 killed skydiving. Most of the people killed in skydiving were experienced jumpers doing high performance manuevers (usually under canopy) As a first time jumper, you would not be able to do any high performance manuevers. I am an experienced jumper and have had cutaways, and am still here :) What I think you are worried about is what we call a double mal. I have been in the sport for several years and none of the people I have jumped with have ever had a double mal. Really you don't have anything to worry about. The instructors are experienced and can handle just about anything. You will always see videos out there of horrible accidents. You will see one or two, what people don't realise is that there are millions of skydives made each year. Just go for it, and remember everyone is nervous their first time.

I assume you mean a tandem jump, hooked into a trained skydiver. If you were to do it solo, you would already have the training to feel confident about what you're doing. I don't think you're crazy and you should go for it. I felt that way when I was about to take my first high altitude flight on my hang glider. I had plenty of training, but had never been higher than a few 100 feet off the ground. I did it and I am so glad I did. That was years ago, and this weekend I'm going aerotowing. Woo hoo!

Some people never take risks and die long before their body does.

GO FOR IT! Life is about taking risks! You only have one chance, and one life, so waste it wisely! =] If you are afraid of parachute failure, test it before you go, or better yet, wear two! I wish I could do that, but I'm not old enough. My friend went, and she said it was so fun and the view is amazing!

You are not crazy!! It is really really fun and there is a reserve parachute in case of trouble. I have done it twice and was a little scared but was so glad I went through with it!

I almost lived my life but I was afraid... so I hid away and remained safe in the darkness.

I think if you really want to go, then go! It is not likely that your parachute will fail. I think that if you do it you will be really happy that you did!

Go for it! That's why they have a reserve chute just in case the main one fails. And if both fail then you were meant to die.

If your main fails -- which is very, very rare -- just deploy your reserve. The odds of both failing are practically nil.
