I was in for just 4 days but the day I got out I went straight to an AA meeting and have been sober for over 8 years. The main thing will depend on if he is convinced he has a problem and can not safely drink and if he really wants to stay sober.

There is a chapter in the big book named To The Wives. I recommend reading it(hopefully your husband has a copy of the book).

you will always have trust issues with addicts. sorry, for better or worst is really hitting home right now. alcoholics anonymous is for the entire family. you would benefit in going with him to understand his program. you will learn to not enable him. they will give you other resources for you to use. 3 weeks is a normal time frame. some rehabs are longer. bottom line, a rehab works when a person is ready for it to work. good luck.

A normal detox is about 1 week, then you go to rehab for 30 days. then you attend 90 aa meetings in 90 days. this will work if you work with the program....and remember alcohol addiction is harder to beat than heroin, just for the fact that it is legal. Good luck to you and yours,,,you are his best support....don't give up, and let him know you are behind him 100% !

Oh dear,I'm also dealing with this problem. This is one of the toughest additctions to have.He may relapse 2 or 3 times before he get's it. Yes,30 day's is the way they start you off.Chances are he will battle this problem more than not.I have had to deal with this for 15 yrs. no change really..You will have to make a choice now,not later,if you want to live this way or not.The addiction is way stronger than you and your love for this person,or his love for you. Dont't doubt his love for you,He would probably give his life for you.I swear the devil has a hold on these people. x x x x

Depends on the person and how much they progress. Detox usually takes 30-45 days.
Since you have to deal with trust issues, you may want to seek counseling for yourself.

If he really wants to get clean I recommend 90 days minimum. Unfortunately most insurances won't go longer than 30.

the shortest amt recommended is 30 days.

good for him to going in. that's a huge step and one that will lead to better things in life for both of you.

perhaps you need to go to individual therapy as well as family therapy with him (and any kids???).

good luck. this is a lifelong battle, not just something that will go away during those 3 weeks.
