Yes it is real but book stores have a lot of beginners books on self hypnosis. I would try that first so you have a good foundation for going to one if need be. There are still people who like to scam people out there.

The only one who has power over you is you... You allow others to have power over you for some reason. In hypnosis the hypnotist simply suggests what you should do to arrive at your situation.
what the people on stage experience is as real as what ever you are doing right now- but only to them..
I have studied hypnosis for over 50 years and I am still amazed at what I see and experience. I have a number of clients that can not use chemical anesthesia due to multiple reasons. Their dental work including root channel is absolutely painless. they had their baby's in comfort. the discomfort caused by their illness is gone.
I would suggest that you see some clinical hypnosis before you make any judgments . See if you can find a hypnosis study group and sit in or better yet take part in the group activity.Shows are shows and little else

It is real and the people who come on stage are not faking or a set up. The people who perform these shows have specific tests that show a certain amount of suggestilbility. They weed out the ones who do not meet the requirements and then take the most suggestible ones to do the act.
It takes some time at first (conducting the hypnotic induction), but when you practice it and have a large enough crowd, you can get a good number of people to perform for you in s short manner.

Hypnosis is real, but probably not what you think it is. Hypnotism was a precursor to psychology, and Freud practiced it early on. Keep in mind that it's just causing you to alter your thoughts, and that the hypnotist really has no control over you.

Yes, it is real. I went to one live and he was great. He had my co-worker go up on stage and when he was hypnotized--my co-worker had to sing Elvis' "Hound Dog", then he had my friend go into the audience to a woman he had his eyes on earlier and start to do a strip-tease to the woman. The place broke out in laughter. If it's a professional hypnotist who has been around and done it for quite some time--it's well worth going to see.

I prefer to think of hypnosis as a state of mind...Kinda like being asleep (subconscious) yet awake and somewhat aware of what's going on. Of course what you think is going on, is actually what the hypnotist is telling you. If he says there's a martian, your brain see's it.

You will never be convinced unless you experience it for yourself. So go for it and make sure the hypnotist picks you as a subject.
Better still ask a friend to go along and video tape you (in case you are suggested to forget the experience).
