I still burp my 8 month old after every feeding. If I don't, he usually burps anyway!!! I think as long as a baby is in the upright position, if he has to burp, he'll burp (most of the time...sometimes there are those stubborn gas bubbles that need to be worked on).

Until the baby starts to sit up and move around on their own. Even after that a little burping never hurts - you will know when it is needed.

well they say now that if you are breast feeding it isn't necessary to burb the baby. (but a nice gentle rub on their back never hurts). But a bottle fed baby will need to be burped as he/she sucks in air through the teat as well. Usually up to about 4-5 months for a bottle fed baby. By this time they are a little more agile and there own body movements should help them bring up their wind. Again though as a parent you will know if they need a little help to bring up the wind. And is also a nice chance to get in extra cuddles too.

My daughter is 6 months, she sometimes burps on her own, but sometimes I still help her so she does not get an upset stomach. Its a personal choice, if you feel shes able to burp on her own then stop, but assist once in a while, especially at bed time so she doesn't wake up gassy

That can also depend on the baby. My first I burped until she was about 7 months old. My second has a much more sensitive digestive tract and needs more help.

My baby started burping on her own when she learned to roll over and lie on her abdomen. However, you should be keen in observing if she burped or not to prevent her from getting stomach upset.

Mine was about 8 months I guess. That's when he started crawling and getting around on his own.
