Quiet people aren't hated by anyone. When they don't talk, people don't think it's weird, so they never have to talk if they don't want to. And if they rarely have to talk, they'll rarely have to show any emotions.

Talkative people make friends easier, and although quiet people aren't hated, most people don't know them well enough to like them. Talkative people also have the reputation of "fun" and "outgoing".

Which is easier/more helpful/useful? Which are you?

I am very quiet, but I have social anxiety disorder. So it takes a lot to be talkative. I don't have many friends, but I do have a few really good friends. If I attracted people just because I was fun and outgoing then they are not really trying to get to know me. So I'd prefer to be quiet because its easier to know who your true friends are.

In terms of the professional world, being talkative is too your advantage. It shows confidence and social skill, not to mention the ability to communicate. Quiet people often have a more difficult time advancing their careers.

"rarely have to show any emotion"...hmmm...
I think you should ask yourself what makes you uncomfortable about showing emotion. The goal of this life is to UNDERSTAND YOURSELF. It seems you have a fear, and you should seek to understand it and then to overcome it.

Regarding a previous question you posed, on anxiety-reducing foods, thoroughly cooked onions are the best. (They must be THOROUGHLY cooked, though.) Sweet potatoes are also very good. Those two stand out as the best. Generally, for the reduction of anxiety, eat WARM, MOIST FOODS, like soups and oatmeal. AVOID ALL cold foods and beverages, and also avoid salads. Drink room temp water with your meal, nothing out of the fridge. Hot herbal tea (spicy or camomile is good too). Also elimintae sugar and caffeine completely from your diet; that is rule number one.

To learn everything about anxiety and diet, the best book for non-doctors is "Vital Energy" by Dr. David Simon (medical director of the famous Chopra Center). The bookstore can order it for you if they don't have it.

I used to talk and talk and talk. But I've been trying to be quiet because people assume I'm smarter than I am when I'm quiet. And I don't see the use in blathering on about something, just for the sake of blathering.

im very quiet.. not because i am that shy.. altho i sort of am.. but because i listen... i find listening to people one of the most useful things in life.. if people just took the time to listen to others they would be amazed by how much they could learn.. you can figure out an entire persons background if you just let them talk and observe..

maybe i am considered quite but i just stop. wait. listen. learn

Quiet people sound smarter. I am a quiet person. You also listen more and you mostly learn from listening.

Talkative people can get on you nerves. Quiet people are looked at smart, wise, thoughtful. Etc. Because they have not said anything to get on your nerves.

well I know some talkative people, that I wish would just shut up..they don;t seem to know when to do that....quiet people have emotions..what are 'you ' talking about..shyness should not be mistaken for stupidity..nor should it mean that they agree with you....both can be helpful in the right environment...I appreciate both actually at certain times...........
