The article you referance above Randy G. is a bit "misleading" (only because the way the article is worded).

Arnold WAS the first civilian to own a humvee,, BUT he didn't OWN one until 1995. (Not 1992, as you stated.) in 1992 he convinced AM General to sell a consumer model after he drove one in the movie "Kindergarden Cop". It didn't become a reality until 1995.

In 1995 California Governor, (and actor), Arnold Schwarzenegger was the first private citizen to own a Humvee and continues to own several.

During his 2003 bid for Governor, he responded to environmental critics that, not only was he the first civilian to own a Hummer, but he had at his own expense successfully converted at least one of his Hummers into a Hydrogen vehicle.

In 1995, AM General began selling a civilian version of the M998 High Mobility Multipurpose Wheeled Vehicle (HMMWV or Hum-Vee) vehicle to the public under the brand name "Hummer".
