today, the states go by BOTH parents incomes. here are the child support calculators; just fill it in. it will give a general idea of the amount, not including daycare, medical insurance or other things.

most states require child support to continue if the child goes to college or training school of some sort; it doesnt always end when the child turns 18.

Mass has " guidelines " like most states for Child Support amounts which are based upon how much income you make. I think its an awfull system in and of itself. By the time DOR (dept of rev.) takes your money some people can barely survive. I use the word "people" because its all genders. Whats really interesting is that in MA they can make you pay child support after the child leaves high school and they make you pay through their college time too even if your paying their college tuition. If you ever have a chance research this mass law under the probate court. Lastly, if you stand firm on the amount you can pay and work a business/ or some other means where the state cannot just arbitrally take your hard earned dollars then you have a chance. The intimidation of lawyers and judges ultimately make some "fold" into making promises they cant keep and that further causes problems for both the parent and the child.. its a no win situation. I was lucky I got away with 80 per week for 3 children. (but I paid up in other ways despite my ex's continue harrassment to pay more) also it was part of the deal that she could live with the kids in the state of WV... which I was totally opposed. She took them there without permission from me or the courts. good luck
