Well, I just changed my background from a dark background to a light background and I just noticed 2 tiny little horizontal lines on my screen.

I have a NEC Multisync FE791SB. Yeah, I know... kind of old school. But hey, it still runs :-D so whatever.

I'm on Windows XP btw if that helps any..

Anyway, anything I could do about these lines?(besides buying a new monitor)

thanks in advance,

Dominick

the NEC monitor you have uses the aperture grill technology. This uses vertical wires to separate out the colors - which is considered to be better than the shadow mask technology that uses holes. The aperture grill results in sharper, brighter images with better colours and flatter screens.

The 2 lines are actually horizontal wires that stabilise the aperture wires about a third of the way from the top and bottom, otherwise the wires might bend as they heat up causing optical effects.

They are not a fault - they were originally designed for the Sony Trinitron which was the best ever CRT based TV/monitor. NEC call this the Diamondtron.

On a std TV they are not noticeable due to movement and dark backgounds. but you can see then on a monitor with a light background. I find I only see them if i look carefully (I still use a 1999 vintage 19" Trinitron monitor and a 1993 vintage 27" Trinitron TV - both have the horizontal lines) and they do not bother me - the aperture grill monitors have great pictures - better than the 17" LCD I use for my other computer and my 42" LCD TV.
