first of all id like to warn u that u are probably going to get alot of heated answers to this question, but it's a good thing to ask. What I'd do is listen to political leaders from each of the different parties have to say and decide who you agree with most, because you are never going to be fully satisfied.

right = republican (tend to be more conservative)
left = democrat (tend to be more liberal)

this site asks you questions about where you stand and different issues (they're broad questions) and you can see where you stand!

Republicans tend to be more conscious of traditional morals and values and promote less governmental control regarding business and more concerning personal lives. Democrats tend to be the opposite.

Good luck on ur search!

Republicans are "right" and Democrats are "left"
In my opinion, except for a few social issues, both parties are fairly identical now in philosophy (big government, limited states rights, etc.)

let me sum it up

Liberals (democrats--left wing as it's called)
TEND to favor gay marriage and abortion
against the death penalty
for gun control
want to provide welfare for the less fortunate
public education
government regulation
trust government
tolerant of communist
group responsibility

Conservatives (republicans --right wing as it's called)
anti-abortion
against gay marriage
for the death penalty
no preferential programs
no gun restrictions
welfare only for truly needy
PROTECT US INTEREST WITH THE MILITARY
private schools and vouchers
strongly anti-communist
trust business
individual accountability

NOTE:not all republicans are conservative on all issues, and not all democrats are liberal on all issues

that's why I wrote TEND to
