I take Yaz birth control pills. They are wonderful for me. They're the first method I've tried and I won't switch unless they just aren't doing it for me anymore.
Before I went on them my periods were killer! I was HORRIBLY bloated, my mood swings were all over the place, my cramps were so bad I had to skip school for a day or 2 every month (I couldn't get out of the fetal position they hurt so bad), I would bleed for 8-10 days, I cried all the time for no reason, and my periods were sooooo irregular. I would go 2 weeks to 3 months between periods. I never knew when they'd show up.
Now that I'm on the pill my cramps are almost nonexistant (only on the first day, sometimes the 2nd too and they're easy to ignore), my mood swings are less (but still kinda there), I only bleed for about 5 days now, I don't cry for nothing, my periods run like clockwork (I have it figured out down to the day, almost to the hour), I hardly get any zits, and I don't get as bloated.
The only downfall of the pill is that I gained close to 10 lbs. because my appetite changes. One day I won't eat hardly a thing, another day I eat like crazy and can't stop.
But all in all I think it's worth it. My period symptoms are lessened, I'm regular, I am less likely to get pregnant, and my boyfriend likes the love handles. lol.
Going on birth control pills was the best choice I've ever made. It has changed my life for the better. I don't know if pills would work that well for you since all women are different. Our bodies adjust to medication differently and react differently. If pills aren't for you there's always the patch, IUD, the shot, and plain old condoms (female and male). Good luck finding the birth control that suits you the best!

I am on alesse 28. I love it! I've read a lot of bad reviews but for me it works! I get better periods, way less cramps and zits.
I was on ortho tri cyclen 28 for almost 3 years and I don't know if it worked or not since I wasn't have sex then but it made my periods the way I wanted except after about 2.5 years I started getting horrible cramping and zits so I switched.
I've tried spermicides and they really irritated to me to the point where I didn't want to be touched.
Condoms are okay but not for a long time they also irritate me except with condoms I think it's the cheap lube they use.
There is a male birth control pill in the making right now, however like most birth control coming out right now I wouldn't go near it for atleast a couple years...look at the patch- it has killed women.
things just aren't being tested well enough.
ALSO estrostep is birth control pills.

I have only used two methods: Depo Provera (injection) and different brands of the birth control pill. I found both were good and bad.
Firstly, both gave me an increased appetite which made me need to control how much I was eating in order to not gain weight.
The depo provera injection had it's benifets because I didn't have a period which allowed for more spontaniety in the bedroom. This was also somewhat of a downfall because I couldn't count on a missed period to see if I was pregnant or not. Also I was infertile for nearly a year after stopping Depo which may or may not be a downfall for you. I had a lot of mood swings while on Depo and that is why I stopped.
I liked the pill because it regulated my periods and I found that my acne cleared up because of taking it. The only major downfall was having to remember to take a pill everyday at the same time. I did have a few incidents of missing pills by accident.
My advice, do whatever you feel is right for you. You can always switch if you find your method isn't working out.

I'm currently between methods myself - been using the "natural" approach for about 13 years now, and I only have 2 kids under 12...
So, it's not working too great! Next month I'm going with the IUD, since I can't take anything hormonal. The pill, norplant, patch, all that type of stuff makes my mood swings uncontrollable. I've heard horror stories about the IUD's, but most responses seem to be positive. I decided on that because I'm done having kids, so I'm looking for something long term. Because of my age (28) I'm just a little unsure about going with getting my tubes tied - it's so permanent. The IUD allows me to keep my options open.

I have used the patch, the depo provera shot, the pill and the nuva ring and condoms. The patch irritated my skin, condoms irritate after prolonged use, the shot was wonderful except for if you have depression now, IT WILL get worse. the ring is awesome as well i put it in once a month and i dont get depressed like i did with the shot, i dont forget everyday like i did with the pill and there is no irritation for me or my partner.
