I invested into two mutual funds I go to my account and it says I have 0 shares.... so I have to buy a $3,000 account and then invest? I don't understand.

Probably just a delay of some kind...if just sent the money, you'll have to wait 'til at least " end of day" to even get a price for the funds. And account " updates" ( when there are transactions involved) may even take place later . Don't worry, you'll be checking those funds for years!! One more day isn't going to hurt!
